Body Language - An International View ReviewThe idea of showing which looks, postures, gestures and signals are either universal human behavior, or unique to various cultures is intriguing. However, watching this video was painful. So painful in fact, that I'm amazed to think that the previous reviewers actually sat down to watch this film. Who are these people? Is this how they make their living?
In a nutshell, the makers threw random people from several cultures into a room and ask them to `pretend respond' to various situations. Unfortunately, most people simply don't know how they would REALLY respond to these theoretical situations. Many seem to mix-up their responses. How do we know that these people's responses are typical of an entire population? I didn't always agree that the U.S. subjects responded in a way that is typical of myself or anyone that I know (or see in the popular media). And to top that off, the information is not presented in a cohesive and understandable manner. It's just cuts back and forth between a bunch of people pretending to respond to imaginary situations. What does any of this mean? Can we draw any conclusions from all this randomness? How do the various situations relate? In the end I was more confused than enlightened. There is no narrator, no setup, no explanation at all. Honestly it looks like a junior high-school project.
The bottom line is this. If you can watch it for free, do so. But if you want to throw away your money, give it to a good charity.
