Advanced Wedding Photojournalism: Professional Techniques for Digital Photographers ReviewI found this book to be conflicted and at cross purposes with itself. It has not decided what it wants to be.The author is very capable of capturing some outstanding images. They are the high lights of the book. Unfortunately for me, this is where I stopped enjoying the book. I was completely unable to reconcile the title with the text. The title says advanced wedding pohotojournalism, and while the pictures are very near that, the text is anything but advanced. First, the book is full of foregone conclusions. For example, the author says to be patient while waiting to get the one picture. Really? She continues to say that emotions can run high during the wedding day. Seriously? She also implores you to double check your camera settings while working. Is this why the title says advanced? She further says that a zoom lens can afford privacy most effectively. I think I learned that in Photo 101, or before. The book is riddled with these examples. Another glaring one was when she writes about verbal indicators you may hear as a wedding photographer,"That means so much to me." She says that if you hear this phrase, it's a tip off that a compliment has been given and a photo op may follow....I would have never known. It is in instances like this where I cannot reconcile the quality of the pictures with the amateur level of the text. The title should read How to Advance Your Wedding Photojournalism Skills with no subtitle. The subtitle currently reads pro techniques for the digital photographer. I did not find any pro techniques in the text.
So, the text does not rise to the title. The pictures are average, and that is the best I can say. Anything more is damnation by faint praise. I had my copy read and back onlne for sale with 24 hours. If you are a serious student of photography, this is not for you.
